2. Coat the wand

When it comes to applying mascara, this is the first mistake most of us commit. We take excess mascara on the wand or applicator and eventually transfer it to our eyelashes. Rotate the wand in light circular motions in the tube to coat the bristles evenly. We generally pump the wand in and out of the tube. This method is wrong because the wand picks up excess mascara. Additionally, pumping the wand adds air bubbles to the tube causing the mascara to dry out faster. It also facilitates the growth of bacteria in the tube.

Once you remove the wand from the tube gently rub against the rim of the tube to remove excess mascara.

3. Get comfortable

Like the eyeliner, mascara application requires a steady hand. Sit in front of a large mirror; preferably one you don’t have to hold. Place your dominant hand on a flat firm surface. If you have a steady hand, there is no need to rest it.

4. Coat the eyelashes

You can start with either the top or bottom eyelashes. We would recommend the top first. Starting at the root of the eyelashes, sweep the wand to the end of the eyelashes. Twirl the wand back and forth as you move along. The movement should be quick if you want an even coat. Repeat the same for the lower lashes. Women often complaint that mascara gets onto the lower eyelid and cheeks. To shield the area and avoid this, you can hold a piece of paper or a business card there.
