2. Getting Started

All nail art designs whether simple or intricate look good only on healthy, well manicured nails. It is necessary to take care of your nails so that you can flaunt nail art with style. Trim and shape the nails neatly. Nail art should never be tried on bitten or cracked nails. After you push back the cuticles moisturize it with a cream. Choose the design you want to apply to your nails. Apply the base coat and allow it to dry properly. Do not be in a hurry as a wet base coat will ruin the design. A tip is to apply a coat of clear nail polish before the colored base coat. It protects the nail and prevents staining. Once the base coat has dried completely you can proceed with the design.

Using a fine brush or toothpick create the designs you want. This can include flowers, stripes, stars or abstract designs. There are stencils available for some designs to ease the application. Allow it to dry properly. Finish it with a coat or two of protective clear nail polish. Its gives your nails some sheen and protects it from damage. If you do not have a very steady hand at creating designs, you can use the readymade stickers or gems. Dip them in nail glue and apply them with the help of a pair of tweezers. You can dust some glitter on wet nail polish for a shimmery look.
