I hope I convinced you of the value, necessity and benefits of periodically detoxing your body in my last post. As promised I wanted to share some very simple, easy ways to do just that. You don’t have to have access to a sauna (although that would be wonderful!) and you don’t have to buy lots of pricey supplements.

6 Ways

1. Begin to be aware of the quality of your food.

Choose organic, wild caught, grass fed and pasture raised whenever possible. Choosing the purest, whole, fresh foods will help you to nourish yourself at the cellular level without adding more toxins.

2. Focus meals

Focus meals around non-starchy, organic leafy green vegetables like parsley, kale, spinach, chard and watercress.

These are superfood greens loaded with detoxifying chlorophyll. You can add them to your salads, include them in your morning omelet or in your smoothies or preferably all three! If you include some fruit like wild blueberries with the greens in your smoothie, you will absolutely love the taste and get even more antioxidants and nutrition.

3. Increase the amount of water you drink.

I always recommend gradually working up to one-half your body weight in ounces throughout the day. People always think they can’t drink that much, but when you let clean water replace those empty calorie drinks, you will find it very easy to do. Staying well hydrated allows your body to function optimally and will keep toxins moving through and out! Including ¼ tsp. of natural, unprocessed sea or Himalayan crystal salt for every 32 oz. will provide much needed minerals. I just add it to a few of my glasses of water. Salt water acts as a natural laxative that cleanses impurities from the gastrointestinal system.

4. Increase fiber.

Think of fiber as an internal broom that sweeps all toxins right out of your system and keep you regular! Just be sure you are drinking enough water otherwise it can work the opposite way and cause constipation. Besides all the leafy greens, including beans is an easy and tasty way to increase fiber. I always top my salad with beans and I even cook lentils, puree them and add them to burgers, meatloaf even my smoothies! You can’t taste it and it bumps the fiber and protein content up. Just boil lentils (or whatever bean you like), puree them and put them into ice cube trays. Freeze and then pop the cubes into a ziplock and you can defrost a couple whenever you need them!

5. Get moving!

Exercise causes you to sweat and breathe deeply – two excellent ways to detoxify! Don’t avoid working up a good sweat. Your skin is your largest organ of elimination and sweating is a great way to eliminate toxins. Most of us are very shallow breathers. When you work hard in the gym or outdoors (even better) walking or jogging and breathing deeply, you are naturally detoxifying. Your body is created to take in cleansing, healing oxygen and to release carbon dioxide. Exercising outdoors in nature has the added bonus of being very calming as well, so definitely get out there and move!

6. Avoid starchy carbs for a few weeks.

Most starchy carb foods are processed and those made from flour, even healthy, gluten free flours, tend to gum up your insides. Try eating just clean protein, healthy fat, lots of non-starchy green, leafy veggies and lots of water for two weeks and I guarantee you will look and feel amazing, your energy will shoot through the roof and any cravings you may have been struggling with will be totally crushed.  Without all the toxins your body functions more efficiently.

These are all simple, easy ways you can help support your body’s own natural detoxification processes and I hope you will!
